1975Van Ackeren Gallery of Religious Art opened.Graduate business courses initiated.1976Master of Business Administration degreeprogram initiated. Jesuit residence named VanAckeren Hall in honor of Father Van Ackeren’s25th year as president.1977Lay members added to Board of Trustees; theRev. Maurice E. Van Ackeren, S.J., appointedchancellor; the Rev. Robert F. Weiss, S.J.,inaugurated as 10th president. Season of theArts program was established.1978Executive Fellows Program began.1979Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree programwas approved in conjunction with ResearchCollege of Nursing.1980Major renovation of Conway and Sedgwickhalls was completed. Eagleton Visiting Professorshipwas established.1987Research College of Nursing received NorthCentral Association accreditation. Jesuitcommunity established a scholarship forminority students and students withfinancial need.1988Rev. Thomas J. Savage, S.J., was inauguratedas 11th president. Research College ofNursing received National League for NursingAccreditation. Global Studies offered.1989Master’s program in Occupational Therapyestablished. Center for Arts and Letters was established.1990A Campus Master Plan was announced. Theplan takes the College into the next centuryand was developed with input from students,faculty, staff and the neighborhood.1991Rockhurst College Continuing EducationCenter, Inc., was established. RCCEC acquiredNational Seminars, Inc. A new Jesuit residencewas built and renovation of Van Ackeren Hallfor academic use initiated.1992The $35 million “Renewing Commitments”Campaign for Rockhurst was announced.1993Rockhurst joined Saint Louis University inopening Ignatius Center, the south campuslocation, one block south of I-435 at 106th andWornall Road. Master’s program in PhysicalTherapy was established.1994Construction began on the Science Center.Town House Village opened. “SacredEncounters: Father DeSmet and the Indiansof the Rocky Mountain West,” a majorexhibit, opened at Ignatius Center. A new corecurriculum was implemented, organized aroundthe seven classical modes of inquiry.1995Rockhurst approved a new five-year strategicplan. The Rev. Thomas J. Savage, S.J.announced a search process for his successorafter leading the College to eight years ofgrowth in students, in the size of the campusand in national recognition.379
