Project Management (2)This course introduces students to the processof project management that includes planning,implementation, progress measurement and performance,results and evaluation. Students willlearn the knowledge, skills and technical toolsfor identifying project requirements, establishingproject objectives and scheduling, balancing constraintsand resources, and considering the needsand expectations of key stakeholders. Studentswill learn the trade-offs and balance of projectscope, resources and schedule and will learn howto compose an effective project management team.Producing project documentation, such as scope,requirements, design, and testing documentation.Prerequisite: ACFN 6110.MG 6370. Introduction to Healthcare ManagementPrinciples (3)Students enrolled in the Health Care Leadershipprogram. This course explores basic principlesand tools of management, including the planning,organizing, influencing and controlling functionsof organizations. This course will further explorecompetencies, behavioral styles, and values of leadership,as well as roles of leadership and teamworkin driving organizational effectiveness. Ethical challengesoften faced by managers and leaders will behighlighted, with identification of frameworks toguide organizations in fulfillment of their responsibilitiesto serve various stakeholders. Applicationsspecific to leading and managing healthcareorganizations, and to leading teams within thoseorganizations, will be addressed.MG 6410. Professional Development: Contemplationin Action (2)Professional Development: Contemplation inAction is a course which demonstrates and documentsthe broad variety of academic, experientialand application-based learning experiences the studenthas had across the MBA program, and assessesthe growth each student has attained as a result ofthe journey, and points them towards the futureas they graduate. At the beginning of the MBAprogram, students are assigned a “Passport” ofactivities to be completed prior to the culminatingactivities of this course. These “Passport” activitiesmay include: content-based workshops; assessmentinstrumentation to prepare students for personaland professional success in the modern workplace;one-on-one leadership coaching; mentoring; and,career management. The portfolio is developedthroughout each semester of the MBA program,and is finalized and evaluated as a “ProfessionalDevelopment Presentation Portfolio” during thisfinal course. Prerequisite: MG 6410 is normallytaken concurrently with (or can be taken directlyafter) the MBA Capstone (MG 6490). As such, allprerequisites for MG 6490 must be met prior toenrolling in MG 6410.MG 6490. MBA Capstone (3)In this capstone experience students integrate andapply learnings gained in mentoring, self-assessmentand the more functionally based courses intheir MBA program. Key processes include integrativecase study, classroom practitioner interactions,consultative team projects, the leadership credoevent, and focus on the dynamics of organizationalchange and strategy implementation. Summativelearning assessment is accomplished throughcompletion of integrative writing assignments andassessment of team projects by a panel of facultyand business practitioners. This course should betaken within the last semester of the program.MG 7120. Leadership and OrganizationalBehavior (3)Executive Fellows Program only. This coursestudies personal, social, technological, and organizationalaspects of human behavior and examineseffective leadership and management processeswithin organizations. The student will learn tointegrate the cognitive, emotional, interpersonal,physical, moral and spiritual components of effectiveleadership. Competencies of leadership,communication, conflict management, and teamdevelopment will be explored through experientiallearning activities including simulations, cases andsmall group activities, and supplemented by variousinstruments.MG 7300. Strategy Formulation and CorporateGovernance/Ethics (3)Executive Fellows Program only. Course focuseson organizational structure and the executive’sability to successfully implement an organization’smission, goals, objectives and strategies. The role ofcorporate governance and ethical decision makingwithin the context of guiding values and supportsystems of the organization are explored. Thecourse examines the executive function using successfuland unsuccessful “real” cases to observe thedecision and execution processes. Both text casesand “live” cases, as well as industry information areused extensively. The course is heavily oriented tothe case method, and supported by conceptual andapplied readings.MG 7501. Professional Developmentfor Managers I (2)For Executive Fellows Program Only. This courseis an integrated component throughout the ExecutiveFellows cohort-based learning process specificallydesigned to provide students with professionaldevelopment as organizational leaders andagents of change. Using formal, comprehensiveself-assessment, various personality profiles, and360-degree feedback as a foundation, studentsdevelop a Professional Development Plan to focustheir learning goals for the program.
