386• The George B. Byrnes Scholarship—establishedby George B. Byrnes, former Rockhurststudent, in appreciation of the support thatwas given him by the Jesuits and his classmatesduring the Depression years. The scholarship isawarded to students showing financial need whoare interested in extra-curricular activities, withpreference to those with physical conditions thatmay impair their ability to work in support oftheir tuition requirements.• The Tommy Joe Caenen Memorial Scholarship—fundedby Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J.Caenen in memory of their son. Recipientsshall be seniors majoring in the sciences and premedicalstudies, alternating annual awards withpre-legal studies or business. Preference given toqualified students in evening programs.• The Charles Family Scholarship, establishedin 2002 by Dan Charles, class of 1988, andMary Brady Charles, class of 1989, to assistdeserving students at Rockhurst University.• The Herbert and Maxine ChristensenScholarship —created by a bequest from Mr.Herbert Christensen in 2001. Open to full-timeundergraduate students.• The St. Peter Claver Scholarship wasestablished in 2006 by the friends, family andcolleagues of Fr. Edward Kinerk, S.J., 13th presidentof Rockhurst University, in recognition ofhis unselfish devotion to the students of the University.At the request of Fr. Kinerk, the scholarshipbears the name of St. Peter Claver, a 17thcentury Jesuit who devoted his life to the poorand oppressed. This scholarship is to be awardedto an entering undergraduate student who showssignificant financial need.• The Virginia L. Coleman Endowed Scholarshipwas established by Ms. Coleman in 2010 toassist deserving students who demonstrate needof financial assistance. A long-standing love ofRockhurst and a strong desire to make a differencein the lives of students prompted Ms. Colemanto establish the scholarship. Recipients shallbe full-time undergraduates. Preference is givento graduates of private high schools located inWichita, Kansas.• The Louetta M. Cowden Scholarship wasestablished in memory of Louetta M. Cowden bythe trustees of the Louetta M. Cowden Foundation.Open to full-time undergraduate students.• The Critical Investments Scholarship Program—establishedin 1995 to provide educationalassistance for non-traditional women students(over the age of 24) who have experienceddisadvantages in the pursuit of their education.Undergraduate students enrolled in the School ofGraduate and Professional Studies are invited toapply for awards from this fund along with otherundergraduates enrolled at Rockhurst University.• The Edith and Harry Darby Scholarship,established by the Edith and Harry Darby Foundationto provide assistance to students whoexemplify academic excellence and leadershipqualities. Preference is given to students in theirjunior and senior years.• The Vincent P. Dasta, Sr. Scholarship,established by Vince Dasta, Jr., in honor of hisfather, to assist full-time undergraduate studentswho demonstrate need of financial assistance.• The Graham Davis Memorial Scholarship,created in memory of Graham Davis, an ‘88MBA graduate and PT student at the time ofhis death. The scholarship is for non-traditionalstudents (those over the age of 24) enrolled inthe Physical Therapy Program. Students mustsubmit a completed application to the Chair ofthe Physical Therapy Department by October 1of each year.• The Ilus W. Davis Fund—initiated throughgifts of Ilus W. Davis, former mayor of KansasCity, Missouri, and member of Rockhurst’sBoard of Trustees and Regents. Open to fulltimeundergraduate students.• The Mary A. DeClerk Memorial Scholarship—establishedby a bequest to assist deservingstudents. Open to undergraduate students.• The Denzer Family Scholarship was establishedto provide tuition assistance to studentswho might not otherwise be able to completetheir undergraduate degree at Rockhurst University.The Denzer Scholarship is to be awarded tostudents in their junior and/or senior year whoare pursuing a baccalaureate degree in accounting,economics, or finance.• The Francis McDonnell Dierks and MargaretMuser Dierks Scholarship, funded bya bequest of Francis McDonnell Dierks, analumnus, and by gifts of his wife, MargaretMuser Dierks, in support of deserving Rockhurststudents. Open to full-time undergraduate students.• The Gary Dierks Family Scholarship,established in 2004 by Gary A. Dierks, a 1990Rockhurst alumnus. The scholarship assistsstudents from the St. Louis metropolitan areawho graduate from Catholic High Schools andwhose declared major is business administration,accounting, finance or economics. Recipientswill be enrolled full time and demonstrate significantfinancial need. Preference given to studentswho graduate from St. Pius X High School.• The James R. Dierks Scholarship, createdby a bequest from the estate of James R. Dierks,a 1937 alumnus, and gifts from his wife, Jeanne
