PT 7322. Physical Therapy Management ofMusculoskeletal Conditions—IntegratedApproaches (1)This course, the final in a series of three, focuseson integrated concepts of physical therapy managementof musculoskeletal conditions, combiningextremity and vertebral examination and treatmentapproaches. In contrast to the first two classes in thisseries, a greater emphasis will be placed on interventionthan on examination. Individual topics includebiomechanical assessment/treatment, soft tissuemobilization, movement dysfunction, muscle imbalanceassessment and prescription, adverse neuraltension testing and intervention, exercise prescription, foot positioning/gait, and taping techniques.Prerequisite: PT 7312, PT 7314, PT 7316, PT7318. Corequisite: PT 7324.PT 7324. Physical Therapy Management ofMusculoskeletal Conditions—IntegratedApproaches Laboratory (1.5)This laboratory course is designed to provide thestudent with practical experiences of clinical examinationskills and interventions that parallel the lecturecomponent of the course. Lab fee. Prerequisite:PT 7312, PT 7314, PT 7316, PT 7318.Corequisite: PT 7322.PT 7326. Physical Therapy Management ofNeuromuscular Conditions I (3)This course, the first in a series of two, is designedto introduce students to the concepts underlying thephysical therapy management of individuals withmovement dysfunction secondary to acquired neuromusculardeficits. Content from the foundationalsciences of anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and pathology will be related to comprehensivemanagement of neuromuscular conditionsencountered in a variety of clinical settings. Pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, evidence-basedmedical/surgical/health care team management, andprevention will be included in discussion of brainpathologies commonly encountered in physicaltherapy practice. Corequisite: PT 7328.PT 7328. Physical Therapy Management ofNeuromuscular Conditions I Lab (1)This laboratory course is designed to provide thestudent with practical experiences of clinical examinationskills and interventions that parallel the lecturecomponent of the course. Lab fee. Corequisite:PT 7326.PT 7332. Physical Therapy Management ofMedical Conditions (4)This course applies current theory to the physicaltherapy management of acute and chronic medicalconditions commonly seen in physical therapypractice. Primary content area will include diseasesor conditions of the integumentary, endocrine andmetabolic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, immune, and hematological systems. Specific PT managementof conditions such as burns, wounds, lymphedema, diabetes, amputations, renal failure, bowel motilityproblems, pelvic floor dysfunction, hemophilia, obesity, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome willbe presented. The pathophysiology, medical diagnosis, clinical course, medical/surgical/health care teammanagement and prevention will be presented as afoundation for developing a physical therapy plan ofcare. Corequisite: PT 7334.PT 7334. Physical Therapy Management ofMedical Conditions Laboratory (1)This laboratory course is designed to provide thestudent with practical experiences of clinical examinationskills for primary care and interventions thatparallel the lecture component of the course. Thecomprehensive management of such conditions aspost-operative and neuropathic wounds, lymphedema, pelvic floor dysfunction, hemophilia, obesity, and diabetes will be presented. Lab fee. Corequisite:PT 7332.PT 7336. Physical Therapy Management ofNeuromuscular Conditions II (3)As a continuation of Physical Therapy Managementof Neuromuscular Conditions I, this course appliespreviously introduced concepts of neuromuscularpractice to physical therapy management of individualswith movement dysfunction associated withneuromuscular diagnoses and pathologies primarilyaffecting the central and peripheral nervous system. The pathology, clinical manifestations, prognosis, and medical/surgical/health care team managementof these disorders are presented as a basis for understandingneuromuscular diseases that required directintervention by a physical therapist. Corequisite: PT7338.PT 7338. Physical Therapy Management ofNeuromuscular Conditions II Laboratory (1)This laboratory course is designed to provide the studentwith practical experiences of clinical examinationskills and interventions that parallel the lecturecomponent of the course. Lab fee.Corequisite: PT 7336.PT 7342. Physical Therapy Management ofPediatrics Conditions (2)Theories of growth and development will bereviewed and applied to case studies representingmedical conditions encountered in pediatric physicaltherapy practice. Content from the foundationalsciences of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, andpathology will be related to comprehensive managementof pediatric conditions commonly encounteredin a variety of clinical settings. Pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, evidence-based medical/surgical/healthcare team management, and preventionwill be included in discussion of each condition.New and innovative therapy interventions will beSchool of Graduate & Professional StudiesGraduate Programs337
