• The Thomas J. Savage, S.J. Scholarship,established in 1999 in honor of former RockhurstUniversity President Thomas J. Savage,S.J., to assist deserving students from the KansasCity area.• The Justin X. Schmitt, S.J. Memorial Scholarshiphonors Fr. Justin X. Schmitt, a 26-yearmember of the faculty and professor and formerchairman of the Department of Theology, by hisfriends and the Jesuit community. Open to fulltimeundergraduate students.• The Seiber Family Scholarship Fund establishedin 2001 by John Seiber, class of 1956, andhis wife, Patricia. The purpose of the scholarshipis to enable potential civic and business leaders,who would not otherwise be able to attendRockhurst, to enroll for University studies in theJesuit tradition. Open to students with demonstratedfinancial need.• The Professor Richard D. Shaw Scholarship,established in 2003 by friends, family and formerstudents to honor Dick Shaw, class of 1960, Professorof Marketing and recipient of The MissouriGovernor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching;The Harry B. Kies Award for Service to Rockhurstand The Rockhurst Board of Regents Award forService. Professor Shaw was twice-voted Teacherof the Year by Rockhurst’s undergraduate studentsand in 2003, was voted Faculty Member of theYear by MBA students. Shaw Scholars will bejuniors and seniors enrolled full time, and pursuingan undergraduate major or program in theHelzberg School of Management. Candidates willbe recommended by faculty or staff in the Schooland actively engaged in the Rockhurst communitythrough lively participation in extra- andco-curricular activities in a manner that reflectsRockhurst Jesuit ideals.• The Dr. and Mrs. John Albert SheahonScholarship will assist deserving undergraduatestudents studying science at Rockhurst Universitywho demonstrate need for financial assistance.• The Agnes Shirk Scholarship, created by thesons of Agnes Shirk, Paul and James, in recognitionof her association with Rockhurst from1924 to 1991 and her strong belief in Catholiceducation. Open to full-time undergraduate studentswith financial need.• The William H. Small Scholarship, establishedin 2004 by William Small, class of 1963.Mr. Small attributes much of his personal andprofessional success to the academic disciplinesand Christian values that were developed duringhis years at Rockhurst. The scholarship willassist students who have the academic potentialto attain a Rockhurst degree; a degree he valueshighly. Recipients will be full-time undergraduateswith demonstrated financial need.• The Sosland Foundation Scholarship providestuition assistance to needy students showingacademic potential with special preference toLatinos.• The Southwestern Bell Foundation Scholarship—awardedto students from geographicalareas served by Southwestern Bell corporationincluding Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahomaand Texas, with preference to students majoringin computer science, mathematics or accounting.• The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order ofSt. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of MaltaScholarship Fund, established by Mr. Thomas J.McCune, The Stanley Works, and Mr. and Mrs.Stephen A. Ziller, Sr., in honor of the SovereignMilitary Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem,of Rhodes and of Malta. Tuition assistanceis provided to worthy students practicing theCatholic faith with preference to majors in philosophyand theology.• The Strachan Scholarship Fund, establishedby Robin Strachan in 1999 in honor of hermother, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, aunts,and nieces in recognition of their life accomplishments.Deserving non-traditional students willbenefit from the scholarship. Preference is givento female undergraduate students enrolled in theSchool of Graduate and Professional Studies.• The Kenneth J. Sullivan Scholarship, establishedin 1997 by family and friends to honor thememory of Kenneth J. Sullivan, class of 1952,to assist deserving students attain a Rockhurstdegree. Recipients will be full-time undergraduateswho intend to pursue an academic major inthe field of English.• The William J. Sullivan Memorial Scholarship,established by the family and friends tohonor William J. Sullivan, a 28-year HonoraryDirector and Kansas City businessman. Open tofull-time undergraduate students.• The Sutherland Memorial Scholarship, honoringAlexander G. Sutherland. Open to fulltimeundergraduate students.• The Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Scholarship,established by the Tau Kappa Epsilon socialfraternity for its members. Open to active membersin good standing of the Tau Kappa Epsilonsocial fraternity.• The James I. Threatt Scholarship, createdin honor of James I. Threatt, a well-known civicleader in Kansas City. Preference is given tominority students from an urban backgroundwith a B+ or higher high school GPA who intendto pursue a full-time course of study in business.Recipients should be interested in giving specialconsideration to the study of, or career intent in,public administration or urban development.393
