OT 5710. Research III: Proposal Developmentand Implementation Lab (.5)This lab taken concurrently with OT 5700 providesstudents with the opportunity to work collaborativelywith their research mentor as they applycontent acquired in the didactic course to theirunique research project. Following the developmentof the research proposal and approval from theInstitutional Review Board, students continue workwith their mentor on data collection. Corequisite:OT 5700.OT 5780. Occupations Across the Lifespan (3)Human development across the lifespan is consideredfrom an occupational perspective. The impactof culture on performance in areas of occupations isaddressed looking at performance skills and patternsduring the developmental process. Typical changesin body functions and structures are presentedcontextually considering activity demands, rolecompetence, health and prevention, and quality oflife during occupational performance.OT 5790. Health Through Occupation II (2)This course employs a case-based format to fostercritical thinking, problem identification, and clinicalreasoning to facilitate the development of clientcenteredreasoning. This lab incorporates a varietyof media formats, group processes, and theoreticalframeworks to identify the contribution of occupationaltherapy to health functioning or restorationof function.OT 6000 (PT 7120). Neuroscience (4)This course is designed to introduce basic andapplied neurological principles. Topics to be coveredinclude terminology and neuroanatomicalrelationships, cellular neurophysiology, structureand function of the central, peripheral, and autonomicnervous systems and their ability to respondto environmental demands. The student will evaluatehuman behavior and performance in relation tofunction and dysfunction of the nervous system.OT 6320. Neuromanagement: Theoryand Practice (4)This class incorporates theories and conceptualmodels of assessment and intervention of clientswith neurological deficits who have impairmentswith occupational performance. Theories of neurologicalrehabilitation, motor control, and motorlearning are discussed as they relate to a varietyof clients with neurological dysfunction. Specificassessment and intervention strategies to improveoccupational performance are explored. Corequisite:OT 6350.OT 6350. Occupational Intervention II:Neuromanagement (2)This laboratory course, offered in conjunctionwith OT 6320, provides therapeutic approachesto purposeful activity, human performance, andadaptation. It provides the student experience withassessment and intervention strategies commonlyused by occupational therapists in the treatment ofindividuals with neurological and occupational performancedeficits. Lab fee. Corequisite: OT 6320.OT 6400. Fieldwork Seminar III: Transitions tothe Profession (.5)This seminar focuses the student on transitioningto the profession. Content includes preparation forLevel II fieldwork experiences, the functions andinfluence of national, state, and local professionalorganizations, development of a professional portfolio,preparation for the national certification examinationand licensure, and the need for life-longlearning and professional development. Corequisite:OT 6401.OT 6401. Level I Fieldwork: Evaluation, Intervention,and Outcomes (.5)The third of three Level I fieldwork experiencesdesigned to enrich didactic coursework throughdirected observations and participation in selectedaspects of the occupational therapy process. Emphasisis on the evaluation and interventions utilizedand the outcomes achieved in clinical and communitybased settings. Experiences may include thosedirectly related to occupational therapy, as well asother situations to enhance an understanding of thedevelopmental stages, tasks, and roles of individualsthroughout the lifespan. Structured assignmentsare used to facilitate the student’s development oftherapeutic skills and professional behaviors. Pass/No Pass. Corequisite: OT 6400.OT 6410. Pediatrics and DevelopmentalDisabilities (4)This course is designed to identify theories, framesof references, and models utilized within the scopeof pediatric practice. This course will review etiology,development, management and prognosis ofcommon pediatric conditions including developmental,medical and educational diagnoses. Childhoodoccupations will be explored as they relate toclient factors, performance skills, performance patterns,contexts, and activity demands. Students willinvestigate the role of OT in a variety of pediatricservice delivery models. Instruction will incorporatediversity and cultural competency to facilitatea client/family centered focus across the spectrumof pediatric disabilities. The course will incorporatethe core threads of theories, professional reasoning,evidence-based practice, Jesuit values, and culturalcompetency will be embedded in course activities,assignments and assessments. Corequisite:OT 6420.OT 6420. Occupational Intervention III:Pediatrics and Developmental Disabilities (2)This laboratory course, offered in conjunction withOT 6410, reviews common standardized and crite-326
