Ecology (3)This course examines the composition, dynamics,and global distribution of abiotic and biotic parametersthat influence populations and communities.Interactions and impacts among species and ecosystemprocesses are studied from a global perspectiveand related to the concept of sustainability. Ecology Laboratory (1)Field-intensive course with instruction in properapplications of statistics to ecological problems,sampling techniques in forest, grasslands, streams,ponds and lakes, and sampling from major taxonsof plants, animals, fungi and protista. Advanced Principles of Biology (3)The capstone course for biology will incorporatestudent-led seminars as starting points for discussionsreviewing and integrating the major conceptsof biology as applied across all kingdoms. Research Projects, Advanced (1-3)The student plans and attempts a series of originallaboratory investigations of a scientifically significantproblem planned in weekly consultationwith the supervising faculty member, conducts thenecessary literature searches, maintains a professionalstyle laboratory notebook, makes at leastone oral presentation of results, and prepares aresearch report according to standards establishedby the department. Anatomy (4)This course presents an integrated regionalapproach to the study of the structure and functionof the human body with emphasis on themusculoskeletal and peripheral nervous system.The study of the fundamental tissues, organs, andother systems of the body cavities is also included.Corequisite: BL 5401.BL 5401 (OT 5401, PT 6102).
