SS-VerbinaunR3ftihrung (SS-OT Liaison)The third type of security service is that provided by the33-Verbindungsftlhrung (SS-OT Liaison). This office is found on alllevels from OTZ in BERLIN down to a Bauleitung (below OBL level itbecomes an Aussensteille (Branch Office)) and forms an integral part ofOT administration. It is a section of the same standing as, forexample, < Frontffthrung, Technik, or Verwaltung, staffed by members ofthe SS under the head of an SS-Verbindungsffchrer. (SS Liaison officer).The members of this section retain their old SS ranks but also obtainOT ranks, usually - but not necessarily - of a corresponding grade.Originally the SS-Verbindungsftlhrung was attached to OT units for thepurpose of field security or elementary counter-intelligence work.The SS-Verbindungsftthrung at the QBL CHSR3QURG for example, lists itstasks as follows:(i)(ii)(iii)(iv)Counter-intelligence, sabotage, political transgressionsand crimes, check-up on German and foreign OT members.Identification papers for German and foreign memberspermitting the entry to construction sites.Dossier of all OT members in OBL Cherbourg.,Capture of fugitive workers.The SS-Verbindungsftthrung is also known to have arbitrated differencesbetween the German contractors and French sub-contractors, investigatedblack market activities, supervised much of the activity between theOT and offices, firms and individuals of the occupied countries.The SS-Verbindungsftthrung in France worked hand in hand with theDisziplinarstelle, SK, Feldgendarroerie and the local French police.At the present time, the SS-OT liaison through its assignment ofpolitical police, may be said to control every phase of OT acitivity.This subject is discussed also in the section Liaison" (IIG-) below.82.
