In addition to the above listed general divisions ofOT personnel, all members of that organisation are classifiedaccording to the type of functions they fulfill. These classificationsare, at the same time, the basic pay classifications:Beatnte and Abgeordnete (officials)Angestelite (employees )Technische Angestellte (technical employees)Lohnempfanger (wage earners)Technically all pay and allowances of OT personnel are alsodivided into Frontbez&ge (front pay) and Heimatbez&ge (home pay)in a manner similar to the pay of the German Armed Forces,FrontbezQge include:OT Sold (regular OT pay> - apparently the same as theequivalent Army pay.Frontzulage (front line allowance)Allowance #for quarters and subsistence*It should be noted, however, that a regulation of December 1944*published in Nr. 35/36 of the Reichsarbeitsblatt, establisheda definite rate of pay for the so-called Front-OT» While it isnot quite clear whether that new regulation affepts all OT membersincluding the OT-eigenes Personal, it seems certain that themajority.of OT personnel, in particular all employees and wage-earners,are now receiving their remuneration under that plan. The oldsystem of OT pay plus Front zulage «ay thereby have been renderedobsolete, except possibly in the case of the comparatively smallnucleus of OT-eigenes Personal. In the succeeding paragraphsan attempt will be made to present a selection of the most importantpay regulations and charts without any claim to completeness in asubject which is in no way clearly defined in the conventionalmanner of pay computation* Since at this time the vast majorityof OT personnel must be regarded as Front-OT, particular emphasis willbe placed on whatever information is available on their pay.Under the general classification of Heimatbez&ge, OT personnelmay get the following:Base payPremiumsAllowancesSocial welfare benefits. While the Frontbezttge are paid out to OT personnel in the field, the HelmatbezQge are transferred to an account in Germany which theGerman employee may designate or, in the case of foreigners, tocollective accounts.0T-F8hrer (commissioned officers) receive a monthly salary anda flat rate for overtime. Pay of all other personnel is based onhourly wages (stundenlohn), plus any of the additions in the form ofallowances and benefits. This procedure is now completely in effectand supersedes any previously existing arrangement. In this discussion of pay it should always be clear that theterm Sold does not at any time mean base pay or tariff. Sold is anaddition to any wage, salary, or tariff and is derived from theGerman Armed Forces "Sold* which is a special straight payment tocompensate the soldier for the hardships suffered. It is an allowanceto cover the man's personal needs in the field. To avoid any erroron this score, this explanation will be repeated whenever necessaryin the succeeding pages.
