20. Blessed be the Lord for the mercies daily conferred upon me and mine.<br />

Yesterday I was helped again twice to <strong>of</strong>ficiate, and my colleague also to preach<br />

in the morning with improvement and satisfaction. Oh, may we be supported<br />

graciously under trials and troubles, as well as in weakness and pains! I thank the<br />

Lord for His grace yesterday evening, and for the opportunity <strong>of</strong> catechizing on<br />

what I hope to have experienced this day 21 years ago, for which I desire to bless<br />

and to praise His great and Holy Name. May my health be restored, and strength<br />

given to be spent in the service <strong>of</strong> our God and Savior. I rejoice in the prosperity<br />

<strong>of</strong> Zion, and could wish to continue the catechism. Oh, may God, <strong>of</strong> His infinite<br />

mercy, pity and return in mercy, mitigating and removing pains and the causes<br />

there<strong>of</strong>. Fain would I go down to the Synod and be found doing something for the<br />

Churches! May the Lord direct and prosper, and His presence go with us.<br />

Blessed Jesus! I am at Thy gracious disposal! Spare and do not leave, but be with<br />

me and all Thy servants every moment, and cause us to live to Thy glory. Amen.<br />

23. Last evening we had a meeting <strong>of</strong> the trustees and determined to try a new<br />

subscription on a plan, partly new and more extensive. The subscribers and<br />

parents <strong>of</strong> the scholars will meet tomorrow, and I would humbly pray for a<br />

blessing upon the infant seminary. May it continue to prosper, and the youth be<br />

instructed and brought up in the fear <strong>of</strong> the Lord, and oh, may my poor endeavors<br />

for Zion’s prosperity also be crowned with success, and we live to see the<br />

salvation <strong>of</strong> our God in Christ Jesus. Amen.<br />

28. Blessed be the Lord for all His mercies. Last Lord’s Day, though much<br />

indisposed, I was graciously assisted and helped both to preach and to catechize.<br />

May my poor labors be acceptable to God in Christ, and pr<strong>of</strong>itable to my dear<br />

people. Oh, may many believe and receive the grace <strong>of</strong> God and the consolations<br />

<strong>of</strong> His Spirit! I would also humbly pray for the prosperity <strong>of</strong> our land, and such an<br />

election <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers as the Lord will be pleased to own and bless! Oh, may truth<br />

with righteousness, and piety with peace prevail. The Father <strong>of</strong> mercies pity and<br />

pardon a sinful, guilty people, and preserve the fruits <strong>of</strong> the land. May we also be<br />

directed in the way <strong>of</strong> Divine providence with respect to our going down to New<br />

York, and all our ways be acceptable to Him, in whom we live, move, and have<br />

our being. O Lord, restore health, and grant patience and confidence, with a<br />

sound mind, in Jesus Christ, who is our peace. Amen.<br />

26. Last evening, through Divine goodness, we returned safely home from New<br />

York, where we have received many instances <strong>of</strong> mercy from the Lord, who has<br />

preserved us, and from our dear friends. May the Father <strong>of</strong> mercies pardon our<br />

sins, the vanity <strong>of</strong> our minds and conversations, and the many defects in patience,<br />

confidence, zeal, and other duties <strong>of</strong> our station. I desire to bless the Lord for His<br />

aid and strengthening poor, unworthy me in preaching at New Hempstead, 527<br />

Tappan, 528 and New York, though in much weakness and diffidence. Oh, blessed<br />

Jesus, I am nothing but sin and misery in myself, weak and desponding. Pardon<br />

my innumerable sins and infirmities, and most graciously accept <strong>of</strong> my poor<br />
