February ’90<br />
4. This morning it is beginning to snow. May this blessing <strong>of</strong> the season<br />
continue, and the city be provided with the necessaries <strong>of</strong> life! The Lord heareth<br />
prayers and, though perhaps later than several years hence, His footsteps drop<br />
fatness. 589 His are the treasures <strong>of</strong> snow, and He giveth snow like wool 590 to cover<br />
the grain, and also to keep the Earth in proper moisture and warmth for vegetation<br />
and fruitfulness. May His Word also be blessed and prosper. The call at<br />
Niskayuna, I hear, is completed, and fain would I thank the Lord for this amicable<br />
agreement. I pray that peace with prudences and piety may rule and prevail<br />
throughout all the congregations. My daughter, being advised to a vomit, was also<br />
delivered from her complaints, and my dear consort continues to recover daily<br />
both health and strength. Oh, may we be found grateful, and humbly<br />
acknowledge this new instance <strong>of</strong> Divine mercy and goodness towards us! Father<br />
<strong>of</strong> mercies, pity further Thy unworthy servant, and strengthen and support him<br />
under every trial as well as duty. Pardon shortcomings for Christ’s sake. Amen.<br />
22. Blessed be the Lord for all His peculiar mercies conferred on me and mine.<br />
Yesterday my dear wife was enabled to <strong>of</strong>fer up her thanks with the congregation<br />
for her recovery from a long and severe sickness. May our praises have been<br />
acceptable to our God and Father in Christ, and we be strengthened from on High<br />
to glorify Him in body and soul by a humble and Holy Conversation in Jesus<br />
Christ, and oh, may the Lord pity me in my present uneasiness, and preserve me<br />
from a return <strong>of</strong> my former pains and weakness, which are worse than for some<br />
weeks hence. I desire to submit and pray for mercy at this season, while we are<br />
preparing for the Lord’s Supper. May the blessed Jesus be my advocate, and I<br />
obtain help in every time <strong>of</strong> need. Spare me yet for a blessing to my family, and<br />
comfort me and others who are also afflicted, and the glory shall be to a Triune<br />
God. Amen.<br />
March ’90<br />
2. Blessed be the Lord, who has brought and helped us hitherto. Last Lord’s Day,<br />
though full <strong>of</strong> pains in my bowels, I was strengthened for the service <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Sanctuary, but at night I was again afflicted with colic and more than common<br />
pains! May the Father <strong>of</strong> mercies pity me and deal tenderly with me, pardoning<br />
my backslidings and many sins and shortcomings. Oh, how necessary is it for us<br />
to be afflicted in the flesh to keep us humble and near to the Lord! May my<br />
afflictions prove to be <strong>of</strong> such a sanctifying nature, and all impatience and<br />
murmuring be removed whilst the Lord is chastening me. Oh, may I never be<br />
removed from the faith and hope which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Blessed<br />
Jesus, increase my faith, and may Thy Word become more and more precious<br />
