Director Alexey German has spent almost 7 years<br />
shooting a film based on the story by the Strugatsky<br />
brothers, Trudno Byt’ Bogom (It’s Difficult to<br />
Be God). The film tells the story of a man who is sent<br />
to a planet which bears a strong resemblance to<br />
Earth during the Middle Ages. There he must monitor<br />
events. Meanwhile, the film crew has also been<br />
monitored during their epic film project – by a director<br />
from Switzerland. For him, Russia is another planet.<br />
In his eyes, life on the great director’s film set is a mirror<br />
of Russian reality.<br />

Retired U. S. Army helicopter pilot, Mark Buller has<br />
settled in small-town Poland to find a new home for his<br />
growing collection of military vehicles and his final<br />
missing piece … a wife. He finds help in the young local<br />
admirer of ‘America’, Michał Niewczas, who accom-<br />
panies the American on his pursuit as the friend, driver<br />
and translator. At the other end of town Jan Konstantynow,<br />
the aging magician, must fight for his place in the<br />
spotlight when the local Culture Centre appoints a new<br />
director looking to bring the cultural program into<br />
the 21st century. While Mark, Mike and Jan are struggling<br />
to find their place in the town, Darłowo is going through<br />
a time of modernization. New ways of tourism have<br />
replaced fishing and farming as the main source of income.<br />
