This documentary-film aims to tell the unknown
side of the story about the migrations of who escaped
from Libya during the war in 2011. Many of these
migrants in fact, had been previously pushed back by
Italy as a result of an agreement signed by Berlusconi
and Gaddafi in 2009. We met them in Shousha refugee
camp at the border between Libya and Tunisia, and
in two reception camps for asylum seekers (C.A.R.A.) in
southern Italy. They described what actually happened
on the boats and what happened after their deportation
to Libya. Their interviews constitute the main part
of the documentary, along with a session of the European
Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where one of
our witnesses sued Italy.
clouDY Mountains
by Zhu Yu
The southern foot of the mountains in Lop Nur in
western China is rich in asbestos. The workers
are making dusts while exploiting the asbestos. From
far away, it looks like a cloud-making machine, puff-
ing clouds into the air. The usage of big machines
increased the asbestos mining capacity but the lack of
relevant environmental protection facilities leads to
a large amount of dust blotting out the sun. No matter
inside or outside, workers only use scarves or masks
to protect themselves. But actually, these textile
products are easily susceptible to dust. The workers are
suffering from the environmental pollution. Though
people working in such a harsh environment live a
hard and isolated life, they do not lose their joy of living,
because they have found a way to make money, which
gives them hope. However, they don’t really know
or care about what consequences the environment here
can bring to them. The movie describes the living
state of a 17-year-old guy, who is stubborn, diligent, and
naughty, his father, who experiences various hard-
ships but is happy and likes kidding and various workers
around them.
