For 82 years, Leontina Miranda Sandoval has lived in the<br />
isolated lands of southern Chile. Alone, separated<br />
from an absent family and to modern developments, she<br />
seeks refuge in her own world. We will know her<br />
memories and her intimacy, her everyday rituals and her<br />
worldview. We discover a secret that takes her to the<br />
past and we join her back on the sea after 50 years. This<br />

letter tape<br />

Letter tape is an animated documentary film about<br />
two engaged lovers separated by time zones and several<br />
oceans. The soundtrack is an actual tape recording<br />
Cathy (the director’s mother) made on a hired audio<br />
machine in London in 1957 to communicate intimately<br />
with her fiancé after frustrated broken telephone<br />
conversations. This old tape recorded message has been<br />
lovingly animated to provide a glimpse back in time.<br />
Cathy describes a wintry London, heaving under a cloud<br />
of smog and fantasizes about when they can be to-<br />
gether again. It is a letter that is excitedly looking forward<br />
to the possibilities of a relationship in its heady early<br />
days of romance and desire. Imbued with an infectious<br />
sense of hope, this fascinating time capsule suffuses with<br />
the atmosphere of a time and place now passed.<br />
