A portrait of Vera Gran – a Jewish singer, very popular in<br />
Poland just before the outbreak of the WW2. Her later<br />
lots, overshadowed by the Holocaust and accusations of<br />
collaboration with the Nazists, spread by some Jewish<br />
intellectuals, are tactfully presented in the documentary<br />
based on a book by Agata Tuszynska, who researched<br />
the topic for almost 10 years. Numerous photographies,<br />
posters and interviews with the singer present an<br />
exceptional life of an individual trying to find a place in<br />
a world dominated by group behavior.<br />

The medium video has fascinated filmmaker Gerd<br />
Conradt from the beginning, since 1969. As a result he<br />
not only became the video pioneer but also a chron-<br />
icler of this novel too. For Video Vertov Conradt dug deep<br />
into his videotape archives to unearth a wide variety<br />
of film shots. His travels took him from the Italian<br />
lifestyle of the 60s to the communist Berlin and Peking<br />
to the Indian ashram in Poona. Life and death, delays<br />
and revolutions – Conradt has seen and filmed them all.<br />
His role model: Russian film pioneer Dziga Vertov.<br />
Video Vertov is Conradt’s trans-media testament to gen-<br />
eration 2.0.<br />
