Dance for Me
by katrine philp
In Denmark, the dance halls are bursting with dancers
of high international standards. It is all about getting
the right partner, when you want to go to the top. But in
a small country like Denmark, this is not always as
easy as it sounds. Mie (14) is an elite dancer. When her
partner stops, the family decides to search for a new
one abroad. Russian Egor (15) finds out that his mother
has set up a tryout for him, and if it turns out well,
Egor will stay with Mie in Denmark. Since May 2011 he
has lived with Mie and her parents in Denmark. All
eyes are on the young couple, the pressure is on and they
are expected to make it to the top. Dance for Me is a
film about a vulnerable young male dancer that has left
everything behind for a new life in a totally strange
family and completely different culture. With sensitivity
and insight director Katrine Philp unravels the story
with poetry and aesthetics. Dance for Me is a modern tale
of migration and pursuit of success and it questions
what you are willing to sacrifice to create the life you want.
As this film is part of the DOK.Incubator workshop 2012
and still in post-production, DOK Market presents only a trailer.
