Examination:<br />

Whether a candidate can change the information furnished in the application form at a subsequent<br />

stage? - No<br />

Petitioner with M.A. in History while applying for Civil <strong>Service</strong>s (Preliminary) Examination 2002<br />

indicated in the application form Agriculture (Code 01) as optional subject in respect of History<br />

(Code 10) – Admit card issued showing Agriculture (Code 01) – Petitioner as per interim order<br />

appeared for Preliminary Examination in History as optional subject – High Court heard the case on<br />

merits – In the photocopy of the application petitioner indicated Agriculture (Code 01) as optional<br />

subject – In view of Instruction No.7 of Information Brochure–No addition/alteration in the entries<br />

made in the form is allowed at any subsequent stage, High Court dismissed the writ petition.<br />

Held:<br />

Instruction clearly shows that a candidate cannot change the entries made in the application form at<br />

any subsequent stage. The plea of the petitioner that he wants to appear in the subject of History<br />

cannot be accepted at the present stage.<br />

ORDER<br />

The petitioner applied for appearing in Civil <strong>Service</strong>s (Preliminary) Examinations, 2002, and filled<br />

in the prescribed form for the said purpose. The case of the petitioner is that he has passed MA in<br />

History and had filled in History (Code-10) as his optional subject in the application form. However,<br />

the admit card received by him mentioned that his optional subject was Agriculture (Code-01). He<br />

then filed the writ petition on 17.5.2002 praying that a writ of mandamus be issued directing the<br />

respondents to permit him to appear in the Civil <strong>Service</strong>s (Preliminary) Examinations, 2002, with<br />

History as an optional subject.<br />
