Mission of <strong>ISPRS</strong>?<br />
The International Society <strong>for</strong> Photogrammetry <strong>and</strong><br />
Remote Sensing is a non-governmental organisation<br />
devoted to the development of international cooperation<br />
<strong>for</strong> the advancement of photogrammetry,<br />
remote sensing <strong>and</strong> spatial in<strong>for</strong>mation sciences <strong>and</strong><br />
their applications. The Society operates without any<br />
discrimination on grounds of race, religion,<br />
nationality, or political philosophy. Established in<br />
1910 by Professor Dolezal from the Technical<br />
University of Vienna, Austria, <strong>ISPRS</strong> is the oldest<br />
international umbrella organisation in its fields,<br />
which may be summarized as addressing<br />
“in<strong>for</strong>mation from imagery.”<br />
Role of <strong>ISPRS</strong><br />
The principal activities of <strong>ISPRS</strong> are:<br />
1. Stimulating the <strong>for</strong>mation of national or<br />
regional Societies of Photogrammetry <strong>and</strong><br />
Remote Sensing.<br />
2. Initiating <strong>and</strong> coordinating research in<br />
photogrammetry <strong>and</strong> remo te sensing <strong>and</strong><br />
spatial in<strong>for</strong>mation sciences.<br />
3. Holding international Symposia <strong>and</strong><br />
Congresses at regular intervals.<br />
4. Ensuring worldwide circulation of the<br />
records of discussion <strong>and</strong> the results of<br />
research by publication of the International<br />
Archives of Photogrammetry, Remote<br />
Sensing <strong>and</strong> Spatial In<strong>for</strong>mation Sciences.<br />
5. Encouraging the publication <strong>and</strong> exchange of<br />
scientific papers <strong>and</strong> journals dealing with<br />
photogrammetry <strong>and</strong> remote sensing.<br />

The scientific <strong>and</strong> technical programme of<br />
<strong>ISPRS</strong><br />
The scientific <strong>and</strong> technical programme <strong>ISPRS</strong> is<br />
organized by eight Technical Commissions. Each<br />
Commission is comprised of a number of Working<br />
Groups which are responsible <strong>for</strong> particular topics<br />
within the Commissions' areas of responsibility. The<br />
<strong>ISPRS</strong> conference programme includes a quadrennial<br />
Congress, Technical Commission Symposia held in<br />
the even numbered year between the Congresses<br />
<strong>and</strong> workshops organized by the Working Groups at<br />
regular intervals.
