Almohads (AI-Mowahad) Rule in Spain<br />

Muhammad bin Abdullah Tumart<br />

Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Tumart, known as<br />

bom in the village <strong>of</strong> Sus in Morocco. He belonged to the Berbers <strong>of</strong><br />

Mauritania. He later claimed to have descended from Ali bin Abu<br />

Talib carrying his pedigree from Hasan bin Ali.<br />

In 501 A H he left his territory in quest <strong>of</strong> knowledge and stayed in<br />

the eastern countries for about 14 years. He took lessons in Fiqh from<br />

Abu Bakr Shashi and learnt Hadith from Mubarak bin Abdul Jabbar<br />

and other scholars. He achieved the honor <strong>of</strong> drinking from Imam<br />

Chazali's fountain <strong>of</strong> knowledge. He turned towards his motherland<br />

halting at Alexandria. Even in this short duration he campaigned<br />

against practices foreign to the <strong>Islam</strong>ic Stan ah. whrch led to hrs<br />

expulsion from the city. However, he feared none .n spreading good<br />

and eradicating evil. He was, <strong>by</strong> all standards, a p.ous and ngh eous<br />
