on the battlefield. They were produced before Shebani Khan and he set<br />

them free. But both <strong>of</strong> them committed suicide out <strong>of</strong> shame shortly<br />

after being released and thus the Chogatai dynasty came to an end.<br />

Although Mansur Khan, son <strong>of</strong> Sultan Ahmad Ulja Khan became the<br />

king <strong>of</strong> Mongolia it was only in name and the territory was actually<br />

ruled over <strong>by</strong> Shebani Khan.<br />

The Mongol dynasty may be divided into two parts or classes<br />

Genghisid Mongols and Temuri Mongols. The Genghisid Mongols<br />

have already been mentioned above and will now be summarized. We<br />

will then discuss the Temuri Mongols.<br />

A Glance At Genghisid Mongob<br />

The greatest event <strong>of</strong> <strong>Islam</strong>ic world was the devastation <strong>of</strong> Baghdad<br />

caused <strong>by</strong> Hulagu Khan. Prior to this, Hulagu's grandfather Genghis<br />

Khan had reddened Iran and Khurasan with Muslim blood. Their<br />

plunder and carnage had turned the Genghisid Mongols into a curse<br />

and scourge in the eyes <strong>of</strong> the Muslims. Dynastic rule had germinated<br />

so many ills and paved the way to the throne for such a large number<br />

<strong>of</strong> unworthy souls that the <strong>Islam</strong>ic character was dreadfully eroded<br />

and <strong>Islam</strong>ic glory was brought down. During this era <strong>of</strong> depravity,<br />

nothing was practically done to reform the situation and to put a<br />

check on the fall and decline <strong>of</strong> <strong>Islam</strong>ic values.<br />

By the end <strong>of</strong> the sixth century Hijri, <strong>Islam</strong>ic rule particularly the<br />

Caliphate <strong>of</strong> Baghdad had become incorrigible. The Seljuks and other<br />

mighty empires could, in spite <strong>of</strong> having glory and magnificence, did<br />

not dare to do away with the Caliphate. The creed that none save the<br />

Abbasid dynasty could do any good for the Muslims had gained firm<br />

ground in Muslim minds. This wrong creed proved very harmful<br />

k^use dynastic rule had spread over a very long period and almost<br />

stopped the birth <strong>of</strong> able and worthy rulers. Fortitude, determination,<br />

enterprise and soldierly attributes <strong>of</strong> Muslims had disappeared. In<br />

such a precarious state <strong>of</strong> degeneration, Allah Almighty brought to<br />

e fore unknown and unnoticed, savage and ignorant Mongols to<br />

Pmijsh the unworthy and depraved Muslims and then to inject pure<br />

hesh blood into the veins <strong>of</strong> <strong>Islam</strong>. The Genghisid Mongols,
