Meanwhile, a man named Tankiri, who commanded respect from<br />

among the Mongols for his piety and devotion, came to Genghis Khan.<br />

He said to him, "I saw a red man in red garments mounted on red<br />

horse asking me to tell the son <strong>of</strong> Maisuka Bahadur to change his<br />

name from Tamuchin to Genghis Khan for God Almighty has decided<br />

to make you the emperor <strong>of</strong> many countries." Although Genghis Khan<br />

took him to be a liar, nevertheless, he began to be called Genghis<br />

Khan. In Turkish "Genghis" means emperor or is a synonym for<br />

emperor. A few days later, some dispute arose between Tankiri and a<br />

<strong>of</strong> Genghis Khan. He caught Tankiri <strong>by</strong> his neck and knocked<br />

him so violently on the ground that he died on the spot.<br />

Gradually, Genghis Khan brought all the tribes and Mongolia under<br />

his control and after the killing <strong>of</strong> the Great Khan iri an encounter<br />

Genghis Khan was acknowledged as the Great Khan. Following this<br />

Genghis Khan turned to the Tartar tribes. The Tartar king found<br />

himself too weak to face Genghis Khan and bought peace <strong>by</strong> giving<br />

his daughter in marriage to Genghis Khan. In the wake <strong>of</strong> this peace
