Law: Entropy<br />

The second law of thermodynamics can be stated<br />

mathematically in a way that defines a new state<br />

function: If the differential dS is defined by<br />

then dS is an exact differential and S is a state<br />

function called the entropy. We now show that dq rev /T<br />

is an exact differential.<br />

We need to show that for all reversible cyclic<br />

processes in a closed system.<br />
