Personalien VGB PowerTech 7 l 2020 New Publication: Hydropower in Europe: Facts and Figures - Edition 2020 • Eurelectric and VGB publish a new edition of Hydropower in Europe: Facts and Figures, outlining capacities, generation, potential and further key figures • Renewable hydropower contributes significantly to achieving EU’s decarbonisation and renewable energy targets • Hydropower’s importance will even rise in the future, providing the power system with storage and flexibility services, thus allowing for higher shares of wind and solar power without compromising security of supply and system stability (vgb) The Paris Agreement, the European Green Deal and the Next Generation EU offer Europe a unique opportunity to establish its global leadership in clean technologies and sustainability, simultaneously fighting climate change as well as contributing to the economic recovery. Even though, the revised Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001/EU (RED II) only foresees an overall EU target for renewable energy sources consumption by 2030 of 32%, the majority of electricity will be provided by renewables in the future. By 2045, renewables will represent more than 80% of energy supply driven by rapid cost decline, increasing capacity factors, and large untapped resource potentials. Hydropower contributes significantly to achieving EU’s decarbonisation and renewable energy targets: With a total generation of more than 340 TWh generation per year of run-of-river and storage hydropower plants (without pumped storage) equalling to about 37% of the electricity generated from renewable energy sources and about 11% of the gross electricity generation of EU27 in 2018. Generation of renewable electricity from hydropower increased in the EU in 2018 by around 11% compared with 2017 (301 TWh). Hydropower provides significant amounts of balancing power, enabling the efficient integration of the constantly increasing shares of variable renewables such as wind and solar power. Due to the projected increase in variable renewables, the importance of hydropower will even rise in the future. Hydropower will provide the future power system with storage and flexibility services, thus allowing for higher shares of wind and solar power without compromising security of supply and system stability. https://www.vgb.org/ hydropower_facts_figures.html LL www.vgb.org Personalien Thomas Gresch verstärkt Axpo als neuer Chief Technology Officer (axpo) Thomas Gresch wird ab spätestens 1. Januar 2021 die technologische Weiterentwicklung des Konzerns als Chief Technology Officer (CTO) leiten. Mit Thomas Gresch (45) hat Axpo einen erfahrenen ausgewiesenen Macher gewinnen können, der zusammen mit einem neu zu formierenden Technology Management Team die Effizienz und Effektivität in zentralen Bereichen der Axpo Gruppe steigern wird. Unter der Leitung von Thomas Gresch wird das Technology Management Team in Zukunft federführend bei der Planung und Einführung neuer Technologien sein und deren Implementierung mit spezifischem Wissen und Ressourcen unterstützen. Zudem wird Thomas Gresch das operative Business unterstützen, um die bei Axpo bereits bestehenden Data Analytics Strukturen weiter zu verstärken. Das Technology Management Team wird sich vor allem auf neue Produkte und operativ orientierte Technologien, wie Machine Learning, Robotics oder Image Recognition konzentrieren. Mit einem starken Kundenfokus sollen dabei Daten erhoben und analysiert werden, um die technischen Bedürfnisse in Zukunft noch besser abdecken zu können. Der Physiker Thomas Gresch war in den letzten fünf Jahren als Chief Technology Officer der TX Group für die gesamte Technology und Data Strategie zuständig. Er hat die technische Innovation des Konzerns massgeblich mitgestaltet. LL www.axpo.com Aufsichtsrat verlängert Vertrag von enercity-Chefin Susanna Zapreva (enercity) Der Aufsichtsrat der enercity AG hat den Vertrag der Vorstandsvorsitzenden Dr. Susanna Zapreva um fünf Jahre verlängert. Ihr neuer Vertrag läuft bis 2026. Susanna Zapreva war 2016 zu enercity gekommen. Der enercity-Aufsichtsratsvorsitzende Dr. Axel von der Ohe erklärte nach einer Sitzung des Gremiums: „Die von Frau Dr. Zapreva gemeinsam mit ihren Vorstandskollegen und den Beschäftigten in den vergangenen vier Jahren vorangetriebene Modernisierung und Neuausrichtung des Unternehmens erfährt mit dieser Entscheidung die notwendige personelle Kontinuität. Ich freue mich sehr über diese Weichenstellung. Gerade angesichts der großen Herausforderungen etwa im Bereich der Digitalisierung oder der Energiewende ist damit eine wichtige Grundlage für eine erfolgreiche Weiterentwicklung des Unternehmens geschaffen.“ enercity-Chefin Zapreva freute sich über die Bestätigung ihrer bisherigen Arbeit. „Die Vertragsverlängerung zeigt mir, dass der Aufsichtsrat den strategischen Kurs von enercity unterstützt“, so Zapreva. „Ich hatte das Glück, in den vergangenen Jahren mit einem tollen Team viel zu bewegen. Ich freue mich darauf, auch in den kommenden Jahren meinen Beitrag dazu zu leisten, dass enercity noch erfolgreicher wird.“ Susanna Zapreva war vor ihrem Wechsel zu enercity Geschäftsführerin der Wien Energie GmbH und davor Geschäftsführerin der Wienstrom GmbH.
