STD. When he got closer to the STD, he saw Charu
gupta come out of the STD. Axle was giving him a stone
cold stare when charu passed by, mumbled
“Pata nahi kitni baat karega” under his breath and
moved on.
The STD was a small shack of brick with a window and a
big door. Right opposite the door inside was a counter
behind which a yound attendant sat. Adjacent to the
counter was a glass booth with a phone inside it for
people to talk privately. And right opposite the counter
and the booth was a waiting bench. There were two
phones in the STD, the other one being on the counter
for people to make local calls. As soon as Axle entered,
he was relieved to find that the STD was almost empty.
There was some guy talking in the booth inside which
Axle hardly cared about. He was just interested in
making a local call. He made straight for the phone on
the counter and started punching in the number
9845658…… when the attendant interjected,
“Bhaisahab mobile number call karenge kyaa?”
“Haan haan” Axle replied. His hand still busy punching
the numbers
“Us phone se nahi na lag payega mobile”
“Kyon?” Axle looked up.
“Are humein nahi na pata hai. Maalik bola so bataya”
“Bahut zaroori hai ek baar try kar rahe hai hum” said
Axle as he finished dialing and then waited for the ring
to go through with one hand on the headset and other
on the hip.
Axle was expecting the phone to ring, the line to connect
and then the heavy voice of a guy. Instead what he
