Replied jaggu as he w<strong>at</strong>ched Haddi ignore him and pick<br />

up his pace. Jaggu increased the size of his steps so as<br />

to c<strong>at</strong>ch up with Haddi. They soon reached the<br />

pavement th<strong>at</strong> lead to the Undergradu<strong>at</strong>e office and<br />

could see a group of students standing outside staring <strong>at</strong><br />

a notice board. This was the board where the list of<br />

Fakkas was displayed. A rel<strong>at</strong>ively huge notice board<br />

which was mostly empty and ignored most the year<br />

used to become extremely important during end of<br />

semester. This was the place where doom confronted<br />

the best of India in black and white. The notice board<br />

was especially crowded during the time after the exams.<br />

However a majority of guys who came to see the board<br />

did not go there in order to see if they had failed the<br />

course. Most of them were people who knew they have<br />

cleared all their courses but were there to see who has<br />

got fakka and how many of them. It provided good<br />

gossip m<strong>at</strong>erial for a few days and provided a chance for<br />

the devious to mock people who had failed. A very<br />

disgusting practice but hey, such is life.<br />

For three semesters Haddi, Axle, Mariyal, Untees, kaka,<br />

Chashmish and vodka used to be a part of the very<br />

same group of guys. They used to hang out for hours in<br />

front of the notice board; sitting on the stairs, smoking<br />

cigarettes and mocking any poor soul who was<br />

unfortun<strong>at</strong>e enough to drop by <strong>at</strong> th<strong>at</strong> time. But<br />

somehow the idea of being on the other side of the table<br />

just wasn’t appealing to Haddi.<br />

“God I am sorry for wh<strong>at</strong> I used to do. Please forgive<br />

me. It was all Mariyal’s idea”<br />

Prayed Haddi as he glanced towards the notice board<br />

and recalled his deeds. Then suddenly out of nowhere<br />

came a weak smile on his face. He realized th<strong>at</strong> he had<br />

run to god and was apologizing for his mistakes just to
