THE INCIDENT
Nizamuddin Station is what you can call a typical Indian
railway station. Bustling with hawkers, coolies,
policemen, railway engineers etc. It is a superposition of
an India that was and the India that is. Here is where
you can find a platform sweeper taking a break from his
work and answering a cellphone call, here is where you
will find a 70 years traditional granny sitting on the
same bench as a hip Indian girl in her teens listening to
her ipod. Here is where you will find kaka with a small
backpack, getting down from the train like a bollywood
hero in slow motion. Kaka got down, reshuffled his
backpack on his shoulder and gave a sigh of
accomplishment. He had made it to Delhi. Now all he
had to do was to get to Canaught place by 11 am. Kaka
checked his watch
“9:47am”
“Plenty of time” he thought and started making his way
out of the station. Between a plethora of jaded faces,
kaka’s glimmering face stood out. He had never been
happier in his entire life and it showed. Happiness was
oozing out of him. As soon as he reached outside he
took a bus for Canaught place. He got inside and settled
in a seat next to the window. He was joined shortly by a
young boy who came and sat next to him. The boy had
headphones on but the music was loud enough for kaka
to hear the slight din of
“Tujhe dekha to yeh jaana sanam” and get mushy. He
tilted his neck and put his head on the window while still
looking outside. After a while when the song got over
and he realized what he was doing, all he could muster
was a smile and a thought
“God. I am in love”
