Chaidh iad suas dhan taigh agus
cha robh a-staigh ach cailleach
“Head for it, then,” said the old
man.
They reached the island. “Do you see
a house?” said the old man.
“Yes,” they said. “There's a house at
the top of the island.”
“Well, we'll go there and get food,”
he said.
They went to the house and there
was an old woman there, alone.
Sheall iad a-mach air a' bhàta, dè
thruaigh ach bha an t-eilean a' dol
fodha
Mach a ghabh iad chun a’ bhàta
agus cha robh sìon ach gun d'
fhuair iad innte. Cha robh sgeul air
an eilein.
Sin agad Rocabarra a tha air chall
agus chan fhaigh duine e gus
am faigh Ruairidh nan Trì
Ruaidhreachan e
They looked out at the boat, and
saw the island was sinking.
They barely made it back to the
boat before the island disappeared.
That's the lost island of Rocabarra.
It will only be found by Ruaraidh of
the Three Ruaraidhs.
Nuair a nochd am bodach a-staigh,
thuirt a’ chailleach, "O an tu tha
seo a chùthaidh?" ars ise
When the old man came in, the old
woman said, “Is that you?”

O Boatman
"O tha treis ann" ars am bodach “It's been a while,” said the old
man.

gu math fhathast, a chùthaidh?"
ars ise
"O,” thuirt am bodach. “'S fhada
on a b' fheudar dhomh an crios a
theannadh" ars esan
The old woman asked if he still had
a good appetite.
He said it was a long time since he
had to tighten his belt.
Fhir a' bhàta
Fhir a' bhàta
Mo shoraidh slàn leat 's gach àit an
tèid thu
Bha mi raoir ann an seòmar uaine
Far an tric an robh na h-uaislean
O Boatman
O Boatman
My farewell to you wherever you
go.
For a time last night I was in a
room
Where the gentry were often found
Nuair a ghabh iad an seo am
biadh, thuirt am bodach riutha
When they had eaten, the old man
said,
Ag òl fìon ann ‘s gun deur ga

Drinking wine without wasting a
drop
"Seallaibh a-mach air a’ bhàt'
'illean mun èirich dad dhi"
“Check the boat, boys, in case
anything happens to it”.
agus fear a' bhàta ga chur mun
cuairt ann
And the boatman passing it round.
