Bha eathar beag aige ‘s bhithinn

fhìn ‘s e fhèin a’ dol a-mach leis an

eathar bheag seo, a’ sealgaireachd

‘s ag iasgach.

Bha sinn a’ coimhead air eathar

Iain Ghobha a’ falbh, a’ dèanamh

deiseil airson falbh

Agus le gaoith tuath chaidh iad

a-mach a Loch na Madadh, a' cur

chlèibh

He had a small boat and he and I

used to go out hunting and fishing

in it.

This day we were watching Iain

Gobha's boat getting ready to go.

They went out with a north wind,

out to Lochmaddy to set creels.

Dh'fhalbh i a-mach 's cha robh i fad

air falbh

nuair a bha mi fhìn 's e fhèin aig

ceann an taighe ann a shin agus

chuala mi noise a bha sin

mar gum biodh aeroplane

nowadays

Agus shaoileadh tu gun robh

cliathaich beinne ann 's an noise

a bha seo a' tighinn a-nuas à

cliathaich na beinne

It sailed away and it hadn't got

very far out

when he and I were at the end of

his house, and I heard this noise.

It was like an aeroplane nowadays.

It was as if this noise was coming

down from the side of a mountain.

Thainig e a-nuas. Shaoileadh tu gum

faiceadh tu e gus am buaileadh e

an dachaigh air an rathad a-nuas.

It came down. You could almost

see it and thought it would hit the

house.

Chaidh e chun an t-sabhail, thàinig

an noise agus thàinig e far am

biodh pier anns am biodh a’ gheòla

acasan a’ falbh chun an eathair

When it got to the barn, the noise

went to the pier from where their

boat had left.

Bha Iain Gobha, 's ann leis a bha an

t-eathar

Iain Gobha owned the boat

Bha m' athair innte le Niall Catriona

and my father was aboard with

Niall Catriona,

Alasdair Iain Gobha agus Seonaidh

Dhòmhnaill Gobha

Alasdair Iain Ghobha and Seonaidh

Dhòmhnaill Ghobha.

Agus 's e mac piuthar m' athar a

bha ann an Niall Catrìona, agus b' e

mac bràthair m' athar a bh' ann an

Seonaidh Dhòmhnaill

Niall Catriona was my aunt's son

and Seonaidh Dhòmhnaill was my

uncle's son.
