minute 35.

Chaidh iad air tìr an Loch nam

Madadh, chaidh iad dhan taighsheinnse.

Agus nuair a thàinig iad air ais

chun an eathair

chaidh m' athair agus an dithis

bhalach fon deic

mar a bhiodh iad a' dèanamh an

còmhnaidh mur a biodh stoirm no

rud dhen t-seòrsa sin ann

They went ashore in Lochmaddy and

went to the inn.

And when they returned to the

boat,

my father and the two boys went

below deck,

which is what they always did unless

it was stormy, or something like

that.

‘S nuair a chaidh iad a-mach a

choimhead air a son, bha am

bàthadh dèanta

Leis an dragh a ghabh a’ chailleach

bho bhith a’ snìomh cha do chuir i

car cuibheall riamh às a dhèidh sin

Bha i beò gus an robh i glè ghoirid

dhan a’ cheud ‘s cha robh dhuan

aice riamh tuilleadh nuair a bhiodh

i leatha fhèin ach

When they went out to look for it,

they had drowned.

The old woman never touched a

spinning wheel again.

She lived to nearly 100 and her

constant refrain after that was,

“mo chòignear fhèin, mo chòignear

fhèin”

Ghabh i grèim air an fhacal a bh’

ann a shin. Bha na h-oghaichean ‘s

na mic aice ann.

“my own five, my own five”.

She kept saying it. Her grandsons

and sons were lost.

Dh’fhalbh iad ma-thà à Loch nam

Madadh, le breeze beag de ghaoith

a tuath

They left Lochmaddy in a light

northerly breeze.

Agus nuair a bha iad sìos gu taighsolais

Rubh' an Fhigheadair

And when they were at Weaver's

Point lighthouse

thàinig blast gaoithe, chuir e fairis

i.

they were caught by a blast of wind

which capsized them.

Còignear innte, dh'fhaodadh tu

ràdh anns an aon teaghlach

A crew of five; all from the same

family.

Bha seanmhair ag obair air snìomh

a latha ann a shin, fad an latha

agus cha tug i for do dhroch shìde

no càil ann

The grandmother was spinning

all day and didn't notice the bad

weather.

Bha i a' snìomh, 's thàinig an

naidheachd nach tàinig an t-eathar

dhachaigh

She was spinning and news came

that the boat hadn't come back.
