System preparation Installation options: Because an SAP system on IBM DB2 for z/OS system is always a distributed system, only two installation options are documented: Standard Distributed or High Availability. The system preparation phase entails all tasks that are necessary to prepare the systems for an SAP installation. These tasks include identifying the hardware and software installation parameters, in addition to installing and defining the server and storage hardware, the operating system, the database software, and the network infrastructure. You must also identify the necessary post SAP installation tasks for the infrastructure. System preparation entails the following tasks: 1. Prepare the SAP database server: a. Prepare the System z hardware. b. Prepare the System z software. c. Prepare DB2. d. Customize the DB2 subsystem. 168 Running SAP Solutions with IBM DB2 10 for z/OS on the IBM zEnterprise System
2. Prepare the SAP NetWeaver AS: a. Set up z/VM as the Linux on System z AS host. b. Prepare the Linux on System z application server. c. Prepare the AIX application server. d. Prepare the Windows application server. 3. Prepare the network. a. Prepare the basic network setup for a quick installation. b. Make considerations for near continuous availability options. 4. Install the SAP application. See 4.1, “Installing Linux on System z, SAP, and DB2” on page 54. 5. Perform basic SAP post installation steps. Building the SAP database server environment During our detailed design, we created a layout of the server landscape including the database server LPARs. Regardless of whether you plan to run the database server on a stand-alone zEnterprise complex or in an ensemble, use the zEnterprise hardware management console (HMC) and the IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager to create the LPARs. Your systems programmer must define, create, and activate the LPARs according to the plans, assign main storage (memory), CPs, zIIPs, and DASD FICON connections. Also initiate the basic hardware networking setup (for OSA cards, intraensemble data network (IEDN), and so on). HiperSockets communication is part of the setup for communications. Then the storage administrator must set up the required disk space, including the emulated DASD volumes. Also activate the parallel access volume (PAV), FlashCopy, and mirroring in the storage subsystem. The hardware is now ready for installing the software. Preparing the z/OS environment To install and prepare the z/OS environment for the database server hosting LPARs: 1. Install z/OS (1.12) and all related components. 2. If you are running SAP Central Services instance (ASCS, SCS) on z/OS, configure the z/OS UNIX System Services (BPXPRMxx). See 3.2.3.2 in the Planning Guide SAP on IBM DB2 for z/OS, version: 2.50 - 2011-10-01. 3. Determine a method of database-to-application server communication, such as whether to implement an internal or private network. zEnterprise Ensembles: Consider using the IEDN ensemble secure network for SAP SCS communication. Use the Unified Resource Manager to configure the network where possible. 4. Review and apply SAP Note 595331- Enhanced ASCII Support/FTP: a. Disable SMF Record Type 92. This record tracks zFS file activities and affects performance because of extensive zFS usage by SAP. b. Optional for HA: Set up the shared file system in Parallel Sysplex.
