5.2.3 Server lifecycle
You can perform all server lifecycle tasks, such as start, stop, create, or delete, of a virtual
server by using the Unified Resource Manager.
5.2.4 Workload and performance management
The Unified Resource Manager provides a wizard to create policies for workload and
performance management.
5.3 Computing Center Management System
5.3.1 DBA Cockpit
Note: There is no connection between Unified Resource Manager policy and workload
management policy. Even when z/OS is part of the ensemble, it is governed by workload
management.
SAP provides tools and functions that administrators might use on a daily basis to run and
monitor the application servers, database, and the operating system. Computing Center
Management System (CCMS) is SAP’s central tool to monitor system landscapes. This
monitor provides specific information for instances running on System z environments.
This chapter highlights these tools and functions and introduces new features that are
specially designed for DB2 10 for z/OS.
DBA Cockpit is a key SAP transaction that monitors DB2 and SAP workloads. It represents
the new central starting point for all CCMS tasks on DB2 for z/OS.
DBA Cockpit has the following main features:
► Performance monitoring
► Space management
► Backup and recovery management
► Database job central planning
► Diagnostics
You can access all of these features easily by using its navigation tree (Figure 5-6 on
page 84). DBA Cockpit has been available since the release of SAP NetWeaver 2004 SP12.
It consolidates some existing transactions, such as DB02, DB13, and ST04. You can also set
it up to monitor remote systems to centrally monitor your whole landscape.
