1.2.2 SAP Business Suite
The SAP Business Suite (illustrated in Figure 1-2) is a software solution that is composed of a
bundle of the most prominent SAP business applications based on SAP NetWeaver. Most of
these applications have a common core, called Enterprise Core Component (ECC). The SAP
Business Suite is a central component in most customer installations. With its SOA capabilities,
it is a significant improvement to the classic SAP R/3 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
setup.
The SAP Business Suite contains the following components:
► SAP Enterprise Resource Planning
This component includes several modules, such as financials, human capital
management, operations, and corporate services, such as asset and project management
► SAP Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
► SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
► SAP Supply Chain Management (SCM)
► SAP Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
SAP Business Suite applications are typically not isolated systems, but are integrated systems,
and therefore, they interact with business processes. For example, an SAP ERP system might
be connected to an SAP SCM system through SAP NetWeaver Process Integration.
