The SAP on DB2 for z/OS implementation is a 3-tier structure (see “SAP virtualized 3-tier<br />

structure” on page 27).<br />

A 2-tier landscape: When application servers are operating on z/OS, the physical<br />

structure is a 2-tier landscape, where the logical design remains a 3-tier landscape.<br />

The SAP database and application servers are on the same System z server or sysplex in<br />

separate LPARs:<br />

► SAP database server on DB2 for z/OS (optional zIIP)<br />

► Multiple SAP NetWeaver ASs on Linux on System z (IFLs)<br />
