Figure 2-9 Setup of a heterogeneous environment
The zEnterprise System brings System z, System p, and System x into a single management
system. Each blade comes with an installed hypervisor that offers the possibility to run SAP
workloads on z/OS, Linux on System z, AIX on Power, Linux on System x, or Microsoft
Windows on System x in the zEnterprise System as one system.
Now, you can monitor heterogeneous architectures for problem solving, logging, event
analysis, and initiating recovery procedures.
In addition to allowing the consolidation of the server portfolio, the zEnterprise System
provides a larger application portfolio for System z. In the past, such products as SAP Master
Data Management (MDM), SAP LiveCache, or Adobe Document Services had to be installed
on separate hardware (even if the customer’s approach was a complete consolidation using
Linux on System z). Such products can now be integrated into the same management
domain with all the other applications running on System z. Additionally, other products, such
as solutions for banking, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and customer relationship
management (CRM), can also be deployed.
