zEnterprise System as applied to
SAP
This chapter describes how SAP products benefit from the recent developments by IBM on
the hardware side with the zEnterprise 196 (z196) server and in z/OS and DB2 10 for z/OS.
This chapter examines the following areas:
► The features used implicitly by SAP, including the immediate benefits that result from
improvements in the technology stack without modifications of the SAP product
► The features used explicitly by SAP, including the expected benefits and how to
productively use them
Many features that were in part requested by SAP, require modifications to the SAP
solution or require customer intervention.
► The major investments already made by SAP to optimize the combined solution stack,
using the new hardware and software features
This chapter includes the following sections:
► Features implicitly used by SAP
► Features explicitly used by SAP
► SAP modifications to optimize the solution stack
