2.10.4 zEnterprise Ensemble

A zEnterprise Ensemble is a collection of multiple highly virtualized systems (zEnterprise
components) that are managed as a single logical entity (illustrated in Figure 2-8). With this
setup, the zEnterprise System is the most powerful and energy-efficient mainframe ever. It is
the ultimate infrastructure for customers who are running SAP applications in terms of a true
end-to-end environment for SAP applications.

For the zEnterprise System, two new internal, secure networks were introduced:
► The intra-ensemble data network (IEDN) with 10 Gbps for application data
communications
► The intranode management network (INMN) with 1 Gbps for platform management within
the zEnterprise System
2.10.6 IBM zEnterprise System and workload management on z/OS
z/OS continues to be governed by the System z workload management policy even if it is part
of an ensemble.
Currently there is no connection between the Unified Resource Manager policy and the
System z workload management policy. When the workload reaches the z/OS boundary, it is
classified and managed under the System z workload management constructs. The user
