CHAP. XVIII.
The Argument.
The Calamities which ufiered in and attended the
Captivity ofthe Jews, were exprefly threatned as
Tunijhments of the Idolatries and other Sins of
their oAnceftors : See Jerem. xv, 4. This made
the Jews of the prefent oAge complain of God's
dealing hardly with them in punifring them for
the Sins oftheir forefathers. This Chapter contains
an eAnfwer to the Objection, importing
that even under their Captivity they jfjould find
their Condition 'Better or Worfe, according as
they behaved themselves : and withal laying before
them God's Eternal Rules of Jufiice, with
Regard to the Rewards and Tunifiments of the
next Life, when he will Judge every Man according
to his Works, and every Man fhall
bear his own Burden.
