XL. and confirms this Interpretation from the placing
lyV^J of the Layers, which were defigned for that Ufe,
and were fet five on the right Side of the Houfe,
and five on the left, i Kings vii. 39.
V. 39,40. Ver. 39, 40. In the Torch of the Gate were
two Tables on this fide, and two Tables on that
fide, &c] Thofe Expofitors, who be the word
Gates in the foregoing Verie understand both the
North and South Gates, render the fenfe of thefe
two Verfes perfpicuoufly thus: In the Torch of
one Gate, (viz. that on the South) were two Tables
on this fide, and two Tables on that fide, &c.
And at the outer fide of the Step of the entry of
the North Gate were two Tables 5 which Inter-
pretation agrees very well with what follows,
Ver. 41. Four Tables were on this fide, andfour
Tables on that fide. But they that understand
thefe Verfes to be only a Defcription of the North
Gate, (on which fide of the Altar the Sacrifices
were commonly killed) fuppofe that two Tables
were on each fide, as you came into the Porch of
that Gate, and two on each fide of the inner part
of the Gate that looked toward the Altar.

Offering.'] It is no eafy matter to afcertain the
Difference between a Sin-ofFcring and a Trefpafs-
orTering. Dr. Outram I. de Sacrifices, is of Opinion
that a Trefpafs-ofFering implied an Injury
done to another, as well a Breach of God's Law.
Dr. Lightfoot hath accurately related the Senie
of the Jewijh Writers upon this Subject, in his
Temple Service, Chap. viii. feci:. 2, 3.
Ver.
