First, the Nameless Bard betrayed Cassana by setting<br />

Dragonbait the task <strong>of</strong> escaping with the “newborn”<br />

Alias before the evil conspirators could bind<br />

her to their will. Then the Fire Knives’ secret mission<br />

for Alias was uncovered when Giogi Wyvernspur<br />

did his impersonation <strong>of</strong> King Azoun IV. The<br />

Fire Knives wanted Alias to kill the king, and so she<br />

attacked the innocent nobleman.<br />

Later, another <strong>of</strong> Alias’ compulsions was to help<br />

bring the avatar <strong>of</strong> Moander into being in the<br />

Realms. Though she did so, the avatar was destroyed<br />

by Alias’s friends and the red dragon, MIST.<br />

With the effective removal <strong>of</strong> two <strong>of</strong> the evil players,<br />

Cassana, Zrie, and Phalse acted themselves, recapturing<br />

Alias and her friends.<br />

During a ceremony to destroy Alias’s free will and<br />

bind her to the remaining conspirators outside the<br />

city <strong>of</strong> Westgate where Cassana resided, Alias, with<br />

the aid <strong>of</strong> Dragonbait, was able to break Cassana’s<br />

hold over her. The mad mage also lost her wand,<br />

which was later destroyed. Though potent even without<br />

the magical item, Alias and her allies’ mettle<br />

proved to be too much for Cassana. She was destroyed<br />

when the staff <strong>of</strong> power she held was broken by Alias,<br />

releasing the item’s retributive strike capability.<br />

Motivations/Goals: While she lived, Cassana<br />

needed to control and dominate everything around<br />

her. From where this compulsion arose is unknown,<br />

but it ruled Cassana’s life. Whatever she couldn’t<br />

control, she’d destroy-as was the case with her former<br />

lover, Zrie Prakis. He contested her dominance<br />

and so, despite their romantic past, she killed him in<br />

battle. Cassana then returned him to unlife.<br />

Campaign Uses: In your campaign, it’s possible<br />

that Cassana survived the final confrontation atop<br />

the Hill <strong>of</strong> Fangs and could turn up to plague your<br />

PCs. Likely, her scheme would involve attempting<br />

to gain control over the PCs, either through magic,<br />

force, or blackmail. It’s also possible that Cassana<br />

had another body ready in case hers was destroyeda<br />

body just like Alias’s. She also could return as a<br />

lich, as she obviously knows the process well.<br />

Weapons <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency: Long sword, short<br />

sword, dagger, footman’s mace, long bow, light crossbow,<br />

morning star.<br />

Nonweapon Pr<strong>of</strong>iciencies: Blind-fighting, endurance,<br />

etiquette, riding: land-based mount, mountaineering,<br />

tracking.<br />

Equipment: As Lord <strong>of</strong> Iriaebor, Cutter has immediate<br />

access to all types <strong>of</strong> normal equipment.<br />

Outside <strong>of</strong> that situation, she carries standard adventuring<br />

gear for a warrior.<br />

Magical Items: None known, but it’s entirely<br />

likely that one or more <strong>of</strong> her weapons are enchanted<br />

and she also may possess some defensive<br />

magical items. DMs are encouraged to provide Cutter<br />

with a suitable number and type <strong>of</strong> such items as<br />

appropriate to their own campaigns.<br />

Combat/Tactics: Cutter is savvy and cunning—<br />

few who aren’t could rise to such a position <strong>of</strong> power<br />

within the Zhentarim. She usually has at least one<br />

weapon hidden on her person, regardless <strong>of</strong> her dress<br />

or the occasion. In combat, she’s completely ruthless,<br />

using her servants or hostages as she deems they<br />

can best serve-to advance her goals. Never trust<br />

this woman in anything, most especially combat.<br />

Allies/Companions: Snake, her Lord Steward<br />

and a shade, her Zhentilar troops and priests who<br />

help her set up the ritual to revive the legendary<br />

Shadowking.<br />

Foes/Enemies: Caledan Caldorien, Mari Al’maren,<br />

and the other members <strong>of</strong> the Fellowship <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Dreaming Dragon.<br />

Appearance: Tall, as pale as the moon, and with<br />

eyes the color <strong>of</strong> dusky evening sky, Cutter is as<br />

beautiful as she is deadly. When in public, she wears
