Later, when the Library sent Cadderly, Danica,<br />

and Kierkan to aid the elves <strong>of</strong> Shilmista, the imp<br />

Druzil contacted Kierkan and threatened to reveal<br />

the young priest’s role in the earlier events unless<br />

Kierkan aided the imp and the other forces <strong>of</strong> Castle<br />

Trinity now. Fearful, Kierkan cooperated with the<br />

evil minions <strong>of</strong> Castle Trinity.<br />

Kierkan was now fully in the grasp <strong>of</strong> the vile<br />

forces <strong>of</strong> Castle Trinity, and he continued to give in<br />

to all their demands for aid-aid that amounted to<br />

Kierkan repeatedly betraying his companions.<br />

Finally, the imp Druzil reappeared to Kierkan and<br />

told him to seek the potion that still lay beneath the<br />

Library. Kierkan found it, but drank it down before<br />

Druzil could stop him. The Most Fatal Horror killed<br />

the priest, then returned him to a semblance <strong>of</strong> life<br />

as a very powerful vampire. Kierkan began killing<br />

and converting all the inhabitants <strong>of</strong> the Library<br />

into vampires or zombies while Druzil desecrated the<br />

holy Library. (One priest, Brother Chaunticleer, did<br />

manage to survive the onslaught.)<br />

The Library was soon entered by Cadderly and his<br />

friends. They did battle with the many undead, and<br />

finally confronted Kierkan. When the battle went<br />

against him, he assumed gaseous form in an attempt<br />

to escape. He was instead caught in a bellows, taken<br />

outside as the morning rose, and perished under the<br />

purifying light <strong>of</strong> the sun. Kierkan died, but he destroyed<br />

the Library. Cadderly vowed to build a new<br />

library on the site.<br />

Motivations/Goals: While he lived, Kierkan<br />

wanted everything he lacked the courage to take for<br />

himself. He resented those who were successful in<br />

achieving the goals he feared to reach for.<br />

As a vampire, Kierkan no longer felt the victim<br />

and sought to repay all those who had made him feel<br />

inadequate in the past, never realizing that it was he,<br />

not them, who had made him feel that way.<br />

Campaign Uses: Kierkan is a great example <strong>of</strong> a<br />

villain who is too weak-willed to be a hero. Kierkan<br />

or someone like him could have turned out differently<br />

if he’d been able to trust himself enough to<br />

trust others.<br />

modern languages (Common, elvish); 4 open.<br />

Equipment: Kymil has access to standard gear,<br />

much <strong>of</strong> it <strong>of</strong> high-grade elven construction.<br />

Magical Items: None known; though magical<br />

items <strong>of</strong> elven manufacture or even those from the<br />

time <strong>of</strong> Myth Drannor are possible.<br />

Combat/Tactics: Kymil is an excellent swordsman,<br />

and he prefers the personal feel <strong>of</strong> a melee over<br />

the detached exchange <strong>of</strong> missiles.<br />

Allies/Companions: For a time (before his betrayal<br />

<strong>of</strong> her), Arilyn Moonblade was a student <strong>of</strong><br />

Kymil. He also used the elfshadow <strong>of</strong> Arilyn’s moonblade<br />

to set her up as a killer <strong>of</strong> Harpers. See the Heroes’<br />

<strong>Lorebook</strong> for information on Arilyn and her<br />

sword.<br />

Foes/Enemies: Arilyn Moonblade and the elves<br />

<strong>of</strong> Evermeet.<br />

Appearance: A gold elf <strong>of</strong> noble family, Kymil has<br />

a bronze complexion, long golden hair streaked with<br />

copper highlights, and eyes like polished black marble.<br />

He’s graceful, tall, slender, and a very handsome<br />

elf.<br />

Personality: Kymil longs for the past. He’s old<br />

enough to remember the glory that was Myth Drannor,<br />

and he hates the ill fortune that has befallen the<br />

elf race since then. He blames the humans for this<br />

decline and hopes to restore the elves to their former<br />

positions <strong>of</strong> stewardship over all the Realms, with<br />

him leading the elves in this, <strong>of</strong> course.<br />

Locales Frequented: Evereska, the North, Waterdeep,<br />

and Evermeet.
