The castles, the architect of which was a German named Heinrich
Schlegelholt, has Italian, English, French and German Towers.
Construction was halted for quite some time due to a lack of finances,
but the artesians continued to work without pay and eventually were
able to complete it by raising the necessary funds. Known as the
Maussolleion, the tomb was destined to become one of the Seven
Wonders of the World. According to information recorded by the Roman
historian Pliny, the tomb was comprised of four sections; there was a
high base at the lowest level, a gallery of 36 columns over it, and a roof
of 24 steps upon which the statues of Maussollos and his wife were
placed. The architect of this 50 m. high maussolleion was Pytheos,
whereas the relief engravings were chiseled by famous sculptors such as
Scopas (east side), Leochares (west side), Bryaxis (north side) and
Timotheos (south side). Unfortunately, this huge tomb remained
