Neolithic Age. New excavations revealed around twenty five layers and
building levels, in addition to the previously uncovered five Early
Neolithic Age layers. The architecture featured mud fence techniques,
whereas their pottery wares were hand-made and dark-glazed.
The oldest settlement in Eastern and South Eastern Anatolia
belonging to this age is Çayönü. A more primitive village compared to
the Non-Pottery Period has been found here. The walls of the houses
were sometimes made from adobe blocks resting on three rows of
stone foundation. Black and grey dishes having button-shaped blisters
were frequently used despite being coarse.
In the Lakes Region and its surroundings, where settlement was
intense, the Neolithic Age tumuli have been excavated and studied.
These are known as Kuruçay near Burdur, Höyücek on Bucak Plain,
the tumulus of Badema¤ac› which is linked to Antalya, and Beyflehir
Erbaba. The oldest one of these is Kuruçay, and a very small
settlement has been found on the building level on top of the earliest
layer. Mono and multi-colored ceramics were made here, while
ceramics made of grey and beige clay were formed with handles which
resemble animal heads. A few of them have bristle adornments as well.
A group consisting of five venues built side by side from adobe has been
found in the tumulus of Höyücek. Additionally, small sized relics
