streambanks and channel.
Environmentally friendly fl ow att enuation
and outlet protection measures should be
installed to reduce erosion and improve
fi ltration of stormwater runoff . Outfall
structures are typically constructed using
least cost methods that create liabilities for
the managing agency and the community,
because the energy associated with
stormwater discharges erode the very
infrastructure from which it fl ows.
Due to poor stormwater management
practices, heavy rainfall causes high
stormwater fl ows to enter streams and rivers
and to erode the channel and streambanks.
Managing stormwater upstream can help
reduce this damage, and stabilization of
streambanks can help repair damage and
restore streams to a natural condition.
