Signage along the district corridors should have a unifi ed appearance,
and be designed with a clear hierarchy that assists in differentiating
major gateways, districts, nodes, and historical markers.
Standard background colors, text type and
color, supporting structures and lighting
should be developed. Low wall or ground
mounted signs built from natural or simulated
natural material with heavy textures and
deep colors natural to the Texas landscape
are preferred.
Sign designs should evoke the historic
character of the district and avoid fl ashing,
animated, rotating, or otherwise moving
components, so that road users are not
distracted. Large billboard-type signs and
signs for the purpose of advertisement should
be carefully located so as to avoid competing
with scenic and historic resources, art, or
other views that enhance the appearance
and quality of the District. Also minimize
the number and size of signs to reduce visual
clutt er where the natural landscape sett ing is
desired. Mounting signs on existing utility or
light poles can help preserve views and sight
lines
