Local Roads are less dense and less urban than Main Streets, though they may include areas surrounding central commercial districts such as residential streets, business parks, or area with a mix of uses including light industrial. They are characterized by broader parkways, larger setbacks from the street, and more generous areas for landscaping. The Local Road Corridor Profi le below presents a typical cross-section for a local residential road, with a parkway bioswale, permeable paving parking lanes, bicycle lanes, and pedestrian scale lighting. Local Road Corridor Profi le 36 │ SCENARIOS The Local Road is characterized by slow traffi c and an environment conducive to pleasant living and working spaces and an engaging streetscape that is more generous and spacious than those along Main Streets. As with Main Streets, these elements tend more towards formal soft and hard landscaping and less towards a natural Texas landscape character. Bio-infi ltration practices within parkways can be attractive and functional elements of the urban landscape. Curb bulbs and bumpouts at street crossings can include attractive landscaping beds.
