Minimize potable water use.
Where irrigation water is desired or
necessary, it can be drawn from harvested
rainwater stored in ponds or basins rather
than valuable potable water drawn from
municipal sources. Irrigate with watereffi
cient systems (drip irrigation, moisture
sensors, and weather data based controllers,
see subsurface irrigation image at top right)
and from captured roof surfaces. Water from
paved surfaces, such as parking lots, can also
be used if properly treated.
