Provide curb bulb outs or corner curb extensions with landscaped
stormwater planters at gateway and main street corners.
Curb extensions can eff ectively narrow the
street at pedestrian crossings by shortening
the crossing distance, improve the ability
of pedestrians and motorists to see each
other, and reduce the time pedestrians are
in the roadway. Curb bulb outs can also
be used to promote traffi c calming, which
increases pedestrian safety. These features
can also expand the landscape, amenities,
and walkable zone. As a distinguishing
characteristic, the San Jacinto Texas Historic
District should consider planter boxes or
beds at key intersections, such as community
gateways, planted with native and adapted
species.
