Les “Angolares” sont les plus anciens habitants de l’île de São Tomé
où selon la légende, ils sont arrivés après un naufrage.
Autrefois seigneurs de l’Ille, ils ont été spoliés à force à la fin du XIX
siècle, et maintenant ils sont réduits a une petite communauté de pêcheurs.
Entre les mites et les mystères de cette l’île de beauté luxuriante, ce
film nous dévoile l’histoire et les coutumes des « Angolares », pour qui
la pêche et la mer sont les symboles d’affirmation.

The “angolares” are the eldest inhabitants of S.Tomé’s island where, according
to the leggend, they arrived after a shipwreck.
Long ago lords of the island, they were defeated by force by the end of XIX century
and are now reduced to a small fishing community.
Amongst the myths and misteries of this island of luxurious beauty, the film discloses
the Angolar people’s customs and history. A people for whom the sea
and the fishing craft are a symbol of a statement.

Chaque jour, à mille lieues d’ici, des dizaines d’hommes porteurs d’un
espoir inouï s’en vont, désireux d’atteindre l’Europe.
Durant les premiers jours de leur traversée entre Agadez et Djanet,
entre Niger et Algérie, les émigrants doivent affronter le temps du désert,
ses stases, ses accélérations foudroyantes, son immobilité minérale.
Cette épreuve qui les traverse fait d’eux des sans-papiers. C’est durant
ce trajet que le film les singularise, les détourne un instant de l’invisibilité
qui les attend.

Every day, thousands of miles from here, dozens of people are driven by an incredible
sense of hope to set out with the intention of arriving in Europe.
During the first few days of their crossing from Agadez to Djanet, from Niger
into Algeria, these emigrants are forced to confront the time of the desert with
its stases, its brutal accelerations and its mineral inertia.
The ordeal they undergo turns them into undocumented immigrants. But during
their journey, this film considers them as individuals and for a brief moment
steals them from the invisibility that awaits them.
