Wh<strong>et</strong>her you are a presenter orjust listening to the sessions, we hope that the conference is an enjoyable and fruitful experience for you.Founded in 1878, Western is not only one of <strong>Canada</strong>’s oldest universities, but also has one of the mostbeautiful campuses. In 2004 Western received the top award in the Parks and Grounds division of theCommunities in Bloom comp<strong>et</strong>ition. This comp<strong>et</strong>ition is a nation-wide beautification program that judgescities, towns, villages and large institutions in a wide range of landscaping and architectural categories.During your leisure time, stroll around the campus and enjoy its beauty.London is the hub of Southwestern Ontario. There are many things to do in the city outside the sche<strong>du</strong>ledconference activities. In the downtown area there is an eclectic blend of restaurants, museums, pubs,parks and art galleries. Many restaurants and bars can be found along Richmond Row. Near the forks ofthe Thames, in the heart of downtown, is London’s art gallery. Nearby is Eldon House, London oldest residence.Across the river from the art gallery is Labatt Park, home of the oldest ballpark in North Americaon its original site. For your convenience there is a London Tourism bookl<strong>et</strong> in your conference bag.For those who enjoyed the walk through the campus, the city has more than 35 kilom<strong>et</strong>ers of hikingbikingtrails through park and riverbank areas. You can walk to downtown from the university residenceElgin Hall in about 45 minutes with only an initial brief step on a city stre<strong>et</strong>. The trail begins on the southside of University drive at Suns<strong>et</strong> Stre<strong>et</strong>. On Suns<strong>et</strong> there is a quick turn onto The Parkway. Soon, on theright side of the stre<strong>et</strong>, there is a paved trail into a parkland area. You are downtown when you reach theforks of the Thames.Should the attractions of the city and campus not distract you too much from the conference itself andshould you look at the program more closely, you will find that there is an exciting array of workshops,talks and presentations over the next few days.Enjoy.Bienvenue à la ville de London <strong>et</strong> à l’Université Western Ontario.
