Some Aspects of Aesthetic Problems of Synesthesy
Summary
The present paper deals with the aesthetic context of music and seeing
colours, of synesthesy and synesthesic art. The colours of the instruments, the
descriptions of certain modes and the feeling in the composition formed the
method for this paper. The integral problem here is to discover whether the
recipients see the colours in the music the composer has experienced and
whether they catch the feeling of the music in their paintings.
The paper discusses that integration of the arts as well as the effects of
colour and music has been researched separately. This represents a new
aesthetic method for experimenting on the synesthesy of the senses. The testing
and developing of the method is in its early stages. More complex and valid
results could be achieved by collaborating with specialists in various branches of
art. Integration between visual arts and music and even of researchers awaits
futher research including looking into identity of music and colours.
The paper underlines, that the correspondence between sounds and colors is
based on the relations between the frequencies of the sounds and the frequencies of the
colors when mixing sounds and lights; there are many similarities between the music and
the colours of paintings.
